Laura Robards is New York based actor, director and vocalist. As the child of actors, Laura grew up performing and attending theater from an early age. On her father's side, she is preceded by a long line of actors including her father Jason Robards III, her grandfather Jason Robards Jr. and her great grandfather silent film actor Jason Robards Sr.
Her interest in contemporary art and the avant-garde has led her to collaborations that extend beyond traditional performance most notably with her work in public programming at the Walker Art Center, performances with a variety of genre-bending contemporary artists and in her recent collaboration with multidisciplinary artist Second Sight Visuals and musician Lady Midnight on their experimental 360 film Pursuit & The Elusive. She holds a degree in Art History with a focus on contemporary and performance art from Smith College and is a proud member of SAG-AFTRA.

Christmas Eve in Miller’s
Point
Coming to Theaters November 15, 2024
After its global premier at the Cannes Film Festival this summer, Christmas Eve in Miller’s Point (dir, Ty Taormina) will come to theaters as an IFC release November 15 of this year. Laura appears as Joanne - a disillusioned Long Island mother trying to hold it together for the family Christmas celebration.

Pursuit & The Elusive
Laura’s directorial debut Pursuit & The Elusive made its global premier at the Social World Film Festival in Vico Equense, Italy in July, 2024. It recently won best VR film at the Barcelona Plant Film Festival and is a Finalist at the Bangkok Film Festival.
This experimental, 360 film is a collaboration with musician and composer Lady Midnight and visual effects producer Second Sight Visuals (Brian Skalak); It can be viewed using an oculus as well as in 2D.
Unholy Communion

In February of 2024, Laura returned to her home town of Minneapolis to shoot Unholy Communion (dir, Patrick Coyle) which is currently in post production. This Thriller set in small town Minnesota stars Adam Bartley and Vincent Kartheiser. Check out an interview with lead Adam Bartley discussing the film below.
The Shine Challenge
Laura returns to Theater for the New City for a new collaboration with playwright Ishmael Reed and director Rome Neal. This will be her 4th time originating a role for Ishmael Reed. Reed takes inspiration from the historical “Toast” - an oral storytelling tradition the existed center to the white mainstream - the "Sinking of the Titanic," which was heard and popularized by Langston Hughes weaving a historical satire in which a fictitious Titanic worker is taken to trial for his alleged misconduct on the ship. The ensuing debacle wittily highlights contemporary issues of race, class and gender.
The play runs January 30, 2025-February 16, 2025.
